INSTALLING

Do I need the CD to run the program?

All our programs can run direct from the CD-ROM or be installed on the hard drive or network server in which case the CD is NOT required.

I don't see an installer. How do we install the program?

To run from a hard drive without the CD, copy to a folder on the hard drive: <Your program name>.exe (Windows) or <Your program name> (Macintosh) and the data folder and ALL its contents.  Install instructions are included in User Manuals that are available on mathville.com.

CAN'T USE PROGRAM

Do the Mathville and Wordville programs run under Vista and are they OSX native?

Mathville 1, Mathville 2 and Mathville Middle School are OSX native, run under Vista and also work under older Windows and MAC systems. These Wordville programs are also OSX native and run under Vista: Read Way, Word Way, Read and Click 1, Read and Click 2.

Our school has a subscription to Mathville 1, but our logon isn’t working.  What should we do?

If your school is located in the province of Ontario, you should contact your OESS rep to confirm your board's username and password.  Otherwise, contact us by email ( info@mathville.com ).

We used one of your programs for years, but they don't run on our recently updated system.  Are there updates?

Mathville 1 is the updated version of Kidway.  Mathville 2 is the updated version of Jungleway.  Mathville Middle School is the updated version of Mathville VIP.  Word Way v. 2.0 updates version 1.0.

In addition, depending on your system, a free update in our Downloads section may solve your problem.  On mathville.com, click the Downloads button (in the first column under the heading Support), select your program, and see READ_THIS_FIRST.htm.

I have a Network version so why can only one user get to the program?

For Windows users, make sure that the .exe is set to Read-only. For some networks, you may also have to set it to be Shareable or Read-only. All files in the “data” folder should be Read-only.

For Macintosh users, check the Locked option for the Mathville/Wordville program in the Get Info dialogue box in the Finder. All files in the “data” folder should also be locked.

When a student selects an activity it appears blank.  How can I fix this?

Make sure that the “data” folder is at the same level and in the same folder as the Mathville executable. Check that all of the contents of the "data" folder have been copied.

PROGRAM BUGS

We've found a "bug" in a program.  How can we get it fixed?

First check Downloads.  On mathville.com, click the Downloads button (in the first column under the heading Support).  Then select <Your program name> Downloads and in the READ_THIS_FIRST.htm, look for the bug in the "You should download if:" column.

Second, check the Troubleshooting section of the User Manual for the program.  Manuals are available on mathville.com.

If you don't find a solution, contact us by email ( info@mathville.com ).

How can I slow down activities that run too fast?

On mathville.com, click the Downloads button (in the first column under the heading Support).  Then select <Your program name> Downloads and in the READ_THIS_FIRST.htm you will find directions for downloading a newer .dxr file.

If you do not see your particular problem in the "You should download if:" column, contact us by email ( info@mathville.com ).

Our school has an internet subscription to Mathville 1.  Some of the activities take a long time to start.

Try other activities (“Count” is recommended) and check your transmission line speed. If the activities’ introductory audio directions take a long time to load (the “Skip How to Play directions” message is displayed for a long time), check the way your network handles mp3 files. You may need to increase the priority given to mp3 files.

VERSION DIFFERENCES

What’s the difference between a Network version and an Internet Subscription?

A Network version allows you to run the program on an unlimited number of computers at any one site/school.  The program may be copied to individual computer hard drives at your school or installed on a network serving that site.

With an Internet Subscription you never have to install the program on your own computer.  Instead everyone at your school accesses the program as an internet resource through a browser using your high-speed internet connection. A logon username and password is required.  Teacher and student home use is allowed with school subscriptions and all updates are free during the term of the subscription.

What's the difference between a Home Edition and a School Edition?

Home versions are designed for parent/child use and include a single CD-ROM for use on a home computer. These versions do not come with a printed user manual and do not include the teacher's resource materials included on a school version.  A School Edition also includes a second CD-ROM or a two-user license.

TEACHER CONCERNS

As a teacher, how do I know what the students have done during their session?

Most of the Mathville/Wordville programs have a printable record of what the students covered during their session. You can direct students to choose that option before leaving the program.

Is there a curriculum correlation for our province or state?

If you don't see your location under Curriculum correlations on mathville.com, please contact us by email ( info@mathville.com ) and we will provide one for you.

Can I disable the print option in Word Way and Write Way?

Yes.  On mathville.com, click the Downloads button (in the first column under the heading Support).  Then select Word Way Downloads (or Write Way Downloads) and in READ_THIS_FIRST.htm you will find directions for downloading common.cxt which will disable the printing.

In Word Way and Write Way can I limit my class's access to specific activities by modifying the program itself (rather than allowing students to choose for themselves or telling students which activities to use)?

Yes.  On mathville.com, click the Downloads button (in the first column under the heading Support).  Then select Word Way Downloads (or Write Way Downloads) and in READ_THIS_FIRST.htm you will find directions for downloading three files that will let you assign specific activities.

Are there any assessment or practice questions or tests available?

Mathville Middle School has an extensive eKit which allows for the dynamic creation of tests and worksheets complete with answer keys.  Mathville 1 and Mathville 2 have worksheet generators allowing teachers to create worksheets tied to activities and topics in the program. All are available free on mathville.com
